Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games’ 27th anniversary and event is scheduled for May 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2013, and will feature top Scottish musicians, professional athletes, and champion highland dancers,  and an exciting array of food, merchandise, souvenirs, and beverages from Scotland and Great Britain to be held in the Mavericks Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This year’s festival has an expected attendance in excess of 40,000 for the three day event.

Texas Scottish Festival 2013 Musical Performances

Musical acts playing at the Texas Scottish Festival include acclaimed Scottish fiddler Brian McNeill, renowned Scottish balladeer Alex Beaton, and noted folk singer Ed Miller. Celtic groups include: Clandestine, Jiggernaut, Margaret Gravitt, Tullamore, Teribus, John Taylor, Seamus Stout, Sparks & Taft, and Hugh Morrison. The appearance of the featured group, the high-energy Celtic rock group The Killdares will delight audiences. The featured and host Bagpipe band will be the Championship North Texas Caledonian Pipes & Drums.

Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games 2013 Events

At the Texas Scottish Festival there will be professional & amateur athletics, Highland dance competitions, bagpipe band competitions, Scottish fiddle Texas Scottish Festival 2013 Highland Gamesworkshops, children’s games & activities, educational seminars, Gaelic language seminars, military living history encampment, Scottish country dancing, a “Bonniest knees” contest, Scotch whiskey tasting and seminars, Celtic harp, a photo contest, an all-Scottish breed dog show, Scotch ale brewing competition, shortbread contest, a feature Ceilidh, and more. The festival has four large entertainment tents this year to showcase the national and regional Celtic, folk, and Scottish entertainers.

More than 65 colorful tents will represent various Scottish Clans and families, including MacDonalds, Campbells, MacIntosh, Hendersons, MacIntyres, and Ross Clans.

Scottish foods & ales including: haggis, fish & chips, scotch eggs, meat pies, bridies, and bangers will be available as well as American festival foods.

Stuff to Buy at Texas Scottish Festival

Vendors with a wide variety of merchandise from Scotland & Great Britain will be displaying their inventory of authentic tartan wear, kilts for the gentlemen, crafts, records, books, and gift items. Also, you can find unique Celtic designed crafts, jewelry, and art.

The Texas Scottish Festival and games are open to the general public and is an event for the entire family, with most activities scheduled continuously each day. Musical entertainment will be continuous in several areas, including the largest pub tent in North America. A Friday evening ‘Calling of the Clans’ ceremony will introduce and honor all the Scottish clans in attendance for the weekend. Historically, the Calling of the clans was a gathering of clans in preparation for battle, unifying all the clans as one.
