In an effort to sing the praises of the wonderful, local things that Dallas has to offer, I’ve put together a list of 20 of my truly local Dallas favorites. Each is unique to Dallas. No big box stores or chains here. Read on to the find the best place in Dallas to get truffle cheese, make your own dress, and get the best espresso.
About a year ago, the Dallas Institute started a new group, Au Courant. The group, originally inspired by The Institute’s vision, brings together Dallas’ young creative up-and-coming leaders with Dallas’ prominent and established leaders. This semester begins a series called “Local/Global.”

The Dallas Observer will be hosting its 3rd annual Wine & Dine event, benefiting El Centro College Kitchen & Culinary Arts Foundation Scholarship Fund and the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association Scholarship Fund.
Tickets are $25 in advance ($40 at the door) and includes samplings of wine, beer, spirits and food from over 30 area restaurants. I bet this event will be more wild than you think.
ArtScape is the Dallas Arboretum’s fine art and craft show and sale. This weekend (March 21st and 22nd) is the two-day art fair featuring artists from around the country, wine tasting and food. The ArtScape Festival is during Dallas Blooms, the premier floral festival in the Soutwest and listed on MSNBC’s top ten things to do in American in the spring. Dallas Blooms is already in its third week and will run through April 14th.
Savor Dallas is an annual event that started five years ago by co-founders Vicki Briley-White and Jim White. Each year seems to have a unique memory behind it. What struck me to post about this event (all wine aside) is Savor Dallas donates a portion of net proceeds to three local charities: North Texas Food Bank, The Education and Scholarship Fund for the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association, and The Arts Magnet Building Campaign for Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. I listed Friday’s special tasting event and the 3 Saturday wine tasting seminars.
