The first annual Etsy Spring Bash will be held on Saturday, May 16th from 11am – 5pm. The show will feature local handpicked artists and crafters, DJ tunes, DIY crafts, a free Etsy Dallas-sized raffle, and 50 free swag bags filled with handmade Etsy Dallas items. Sign me up for one of those, please! The event is free and open to the public. Spring Bash will be at South Side on Lamar located at 1401 S Lamar St.

HCG Gallery presents Floyd Newsum’s “Composition, Marks and Arrangements” exhibit, beginning on March 21st and running through April 11th. HCG invites you to welcome the internationally acclaimed Houston artist on March 21st from 5-8pm. The reception is open to the public. At the bottom of this post is a video of Newsum from the Houston PBS production, “Art is All Around Us.”

Strokes for a Cure is an event featuring two artists: a musician and a painter. Together they will originate a work of art for a worthy cause. Seth Simmons, pianist, will play his original compositions while Rolando Diaz, Cuban-American artist, paints an original oil on canvas. A silent auction for the painting will follow their performance. Strokes for a Cure is a benefit for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The Public Trust will exhibit the works of the late artist Charley Harper. The opening reception will be on Saturday, March 7th from 6-9pm. The exhibit will run through April 2009. Artist Ranjani Shettar will be speaking at the SMU Meadows Museum on March 24, 2009 at 6:30pm. The lecture is presented in conjunction with Shettar’s recent exhibition at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Shettar kicked off the 2008-09 FOCUS season in December and featured 5 of her installations…

Classical meets jazz this weekend when the Dallas Symphony plays with Grammy Award-winning saxophone player Branford Marsalis.

The Amon Carter Museum presents today Barbara Crane: Challenging Vision, the first major retrospective in more than 25 years of the photographer’s work. This exhibition features nearly 200 photographs, from Crane’s internationally heralded early studies of human form through her chronicle of Chicago city life to her recent explorations of nature. The exhibition will be on view through May 10, 2009, before moving on to the organizer’s venue, the Chicago Cultural Center.

Start your Sunday morning off by visiting Malcolm’s Back Alley Swap Meet – going on from 11am-3pm. Malcolm’s BASM is located on the corner of MalcolmX Blvd. and Elm St. in the historic art district of Deep Ellum.

In its 5th year, alley’s house will be presenting its Annual Art Auction this Saturday, February 7th from 7-10pm. The Auction will be at the American Fine Art Gallery, 1611 Dragon Street, Dallas, TX 75207

Art works will be available for viewing one week prior to and following the event at American Fine Art Gallery or online at alleyshouse.org. Tickets may be purchased either at the door ($30) or online ($25).
