The Art of Dr. Seuss is a National touring exhibition honoring the 100th Seussentennial celebration… and it’s coming to Dallas! Storyopolis Fine Art and The 4th Wall Gallery invite you to discover the wildly imaginary work of Theodor Seuss Geisel.
The exhibit chronicles 70 years of artistic creations, including rare early works of poetry, advertising works, WWII editorial cartoons, magazine covers from the 1920’s & 1930’s, his collection of unorthodox taxidermy, the Secret Art, and never-before-seen works from Seuss’s personal archives. What a treasure this will be!
The Women’s Museum will be celebrating the opening art exhibit of Roberta Harris: UP on Saturday, July 11th, 2009. Meet the Houston-based artist in person and view her artwork from 1985 to the present. Her latest work, birds and grid, looks beautiful online. I spoke with Alyssa Gardina who said Harris’ “Apple Sky” will be displayed at the exhibit. Yay!
Admission to the Museum and the reception is free and en complimentary food and beverage. RSVP to [email protected] or (214) 915-0876 by July 8.
When: Saturday, July 11th, 3:00-5pm
Where: The Women’s Museum, 3800 Parry Avenue, Dallas, TX 75226
The exhibit UP is fundamentally about hope. Hope is not wishful thinking. Hope is rather the ability to stand amid what is broken and chaotic and envision a positive future story. – Roberta Harris

A couple days ago I met local artist Carmen Menza. Her work will be featured this Friday, along with 16 other artists at Off the Grid, an old Power & Light substation that has been renovated for cool events like this one. The exhibit is one night only, open to the public, and 30% of all proceeds will benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center.
Expect lots of new age art and chatter. Meet the artists and other enthusiasts. Or don’t meet anyone and just look at the art. The reception is from 7-10pm. Go. Support local artists. Have fun.
Discover how Aureliano de Beruete (1845-1912) was influenced by his contemporaries MartÃn Rico and JoaquÃn Sorolla y Bastida, the French Impressionists, as well as his enthusiasm and appreciation for Diego Velázquez. Professor de Miguel Egea will also examine how Beruete was able to travel extensively, experience first-hand the work of his European contemporaries, and freely paint subjects that interested him, such as old Castilian cities and their surrounding landscapes.
Reserve your seat for next Wednesday’s panel discussion about how art impacts and often leads the way to social changes. The evening will also feature discussion about the upcoming operas, Dead Man Walking (Fort Worth Opera, May 2009) and Moby Dick (world premiere, Dallas Opera, 2010) and music from Dead Man Walking and other Heggie/Prejean collaborations.
The Dallas Art Dealers Association (DADA) will have its annual Spring Gallery Walk, panel discussions, and Scholarship show on Saturday, April 18th. From 2-8pm, art lovers (or the lovers of art lovers) will be able to view all exhibits for free. There are places all over the Metroplex, from Dallas to Irving and even into Arlington. For us in the Dallas area, you can knock out almost half of them if you start in Uptown area and then work your way over to the Design District (aka Dragon Street.)

One of the things I didn’t attend last year was the lecture series they offered to filmmakers and filmgoers, called Talk/Show. This year, I have listed the complete schedule and plan to attend a couple. The panel discussions are free and open to the public.
