Okrapalooza 2017!
This music and food festival will be taking place this weekend and is all for a great cause, supporting Promise of Peace Gardens.
Promise of Peace, (P.O.P.), Community Gardens is a thriving force in the sustainable food movement that provides horticultural and environmental explorations for folks of all backgrounds. With garden classes, kids camps, and cooking classes P.O.P. inspires participants to live their best healthy life.
Now, at the Emanuel location, they will grow to share food with the food pantry at The Emanuel Community Center. They offer free programming for disadvantaged chiildren at two of their sites , serving over 500 children a month.
The Bayles Elementary P.O.P. Garden is expanding and is the location of their first “Seed to Soul” program where they will teach families to grow, harvest and prepare nutritious and delicious meals while having meaningful conversations with their families around the food.
P.O.P. is dedicated to transforming perspectives while providing simple solutions to stagnant circumstances in urban settings. They are also installing a new farm in West Dallas in partnership with LaBajada Urban Youth Farm. As a result, Promise of Peace Community Gardens IS: “Changing Lives – one seed at a time!”
