Cavanaugh Flight Museum, home to the largest collection of flying historic and military aircraft in the Southwest, hosts its biggest weekend of the year, Warbirds Over Addison, May 21-22, 2016. North Texas aviation buffs will have the chance to see, touch and even FLY in many of the planes in the unparalleled Cavanaugh collection. The Cavanaugh Flight Museum will fly many of its treasured WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam-era airplanes including: the P‐51 Mustang, AD-5 Skyraider, FM2 Wildcat, T-28B Trojan, P-40 Warhawk, and many more. Aviation fans can book personal flights at discounted rates in many of these historical planes. Flights start at just $75!

Guests can enjoy aircraft on display plus a naval carrier aircraft operation demonstration and Sherman Tank demo.

This year, the Cavanaugh is celebrating with a MASSIVE P-51 Mustang gathering. In addition to the collection’s famed Brat III, Warbirds Over Addison will also host other Mustangs, including Buzzin’ Cuzzin’, Happy Jacks Go Buggy, Little Rebel, Millie G, Sweet and Lovely and Worry Bird. Sleek and elegant, the North American P-51D Mustang was truly a “fighter pilot’s dream.” It is perhaps the best known fighter aircraft of all time. Designed in record time at the request of the British in 1940, the Mustang possessed a deadly combination of speed, endurance, maneuverability and firepower. By the end of the Mustang’s production run, more than 15,000 P-51s had been built and the aircraft had seen service around the world as an escort fighter, fighter/bomber, dive bomber, reconnaissance aircraft, and finally, a race plane. The Mustang has local roots, too! While production began initially in California, as demand grew, a plant was added in Grand Prairie to produce the famed fighter.

The weekend showcases not only the extensive Cavanaugh collection, but also visiting aircraft brought in by warbird enthusiasts and museum collections around the country.
