I entered this recipe into myfitnesspal and got drastically different calorie numbers per serving than what is listed. Add 3 cups of marinara sauce, 1 cup of chicken broth, and a tablespoon of minced garlic to the casserole dish and mix everything together. . ANYONE? We all loved it! Love it!! Delicious. In that respect in does not require butter as flour is used as a thickening agent in soup (you could also use cornstarch). and instead just sprinkled a box of Panko Bread crumbs over the pre-seasoned boneless skinless chicken thighs. I’m wondering if Tom didn’t cook the flour and liquid. I have made something very similar to this in the past with the quinoa as well. The sauce came out lumpy, even when I whisked it like a damn Tasmanian Devil. I’ve already saved the recipe for future use. Is it ok to double the recipe?? It’s a homemade condensed soup, if you are making a bechamel (white sauce) you’re making something entirely different. I can’t figure out how in the world you got your numbers. And thank you for substituting for the salty canned soup! This weekend I decided to start making a big caserole for the two of us that we can for two or three meals during the week. You mix everything together with a good portion of butter and pinch of caraway seeds (which I always omit, YUCK) and VIOLA! So good. ★☆ Luckily my new east coast friends have no confusion about what to do with said hot dish, though–consume in mass quantities. I am also a midwesterner (from St. Louis) and I love casseroles! I thought the white sauce was amazing! I grew up in Minnesota and it was ALWAYS hot dish (v. casserole). Try adding the milk to the flour/seasoning (while whisking) more slowly, rather than all at once. I dropped the Marinara for additional chicken broth. I don’t have a ceramic baking dish, so hopefully my pyrex will do the trick! Thanks Lee! This looks AMAZING. Only one problem. The last step is simple! Thanks anyway. We haven’t tested out almond flour yet, but let us know how this goes for you if you end up trying it out. xo Andrea You have no one to blame but yourself. If you did this you could give more constructive feedback than it was horrible, “like the soup was a bit bland so i added a bit more salt, blah, blah..” Given that everyone will be using different brands of broth, some homemade broths, different seasonings and spice blends, it is very possible that the combination of seasoning you chose did not meld well together or they caused a salt imbalance in the dish. I am a HUGE Quinoa fan… I used my 9×13 glass dish to bake this and reading through your notes – I baked 40 minutes at 375 Degrees – uncovered it bumped the temp to 400 degrees and cooked for 25 minutes – turned out PERFECT!
