This landmark property was the birthplace of the headquarters of Magnolia Oil Company. They were the predecessor to how we know them today as, Mobile Oil. The building was the tallest property west of the Mississippi when it opened in 1921. The flying red horse, “Pegasus” was placed on top of the building in 1934. There are actually two horses on top of the propery.  It is rumored that two were placed back to back because Dallas did not want to be known as a one horse town. The horse eventually became a symbol for Dallas.  Hotel developers purchased the property in 1997 and the Magnolia Hotel was born.
