12 September Festivals to Attend in DFW [Slideshow]
It’s September, and just when you thought festival season was over, here are 12 more awesome ones.
Stand Up (To Cancer) in Dallas
Tonight, on many TV channels, the Stand Up To Cancer event (SU2C) will be broadcast to millions of viewers. Chances are you know someone with cancer. It’s estimated that 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes.
Dallas Observer’s BrewFest IV Happens September 13, 2014
“Support Local Beer!” is a rallying cry heard far and wide round these parts. If you’re one of many who find themselves peering in from the outside looking for an opportunity to hop aboard the movement, this is your chance. Want to order a local beer at a bar and don’t know which suits you? This is your chance to explore the local brew scene and sample all of the beers DFW breweries have to offer!
Deep Ellum Brewing Labor of Love III Homebrew Competition [Slideshow]
This beer-tastic event started around 6 p.m. and ended around 10 p.m. Unlike other events, Labor of Love seemed more fun-loving and less competitive overall. Maybe it was the low cost of entry ($30), and unlimited beer samples, but patrons seemed to be more gleeful because they got their money’s worth.
Steampunk Invasion Is Coming to Dallas
For one weekend, why not leave your skepticism at the door and put on a pair of leather goggles at Dallas Heritage Village. There is too much fun to be had and plenty of opportunities to brush up on your alternate history.
AnimeFest 2014: The Fun Never Stopped
I haven’t even steeped foot onto the premises, and already the mania and excitement of Anime was bursting at the seams. With everything going on with the news lately, a little escapism can do the psyche some good. Plenty of North Texas Anime fans came to the Sheraton Hotel on Saturday, costumed and all, to celebrate the nirvana that is AnimeFest. Short for “Anime Festival” it’s a once a year celebration of all things Japanese animation thrown right here in Downtown Dallas.
AnimeFest is Coming Back to Dallas – Bring on the Cosplay
So the summer season is a total wash. Our favorite TV shows won’t return from hiatus until fall. Things are getting pretty crazy in politics and in world news. Weather is out of control. Concert tickets are getting pricier and summer movies are becoming more lame. August isn’t exactly what I would call a slam dunk month for events that happen in DFW. But when events do happen, why not take advantage when the opportunity arrives?
The Secret to Secret Shows in Dallas: Meet Sofar Sounds
The sidewalk outside of a beautiful, modern house off Lovers Lane gained traffic as it grew closer and closer to 4:30 PM on Saturday. “Someone havin’ a party?†a neighbor asked me. “You could say that…†I replied. As I gave my name to the lady with the clipboard at the door, she crossed me […]
Ouà Like to Party: Bastille on Bishop is Back
Celebrating its fifth year in Dallas, the largest French festival in North Texas has returned. On Monday, July 14th from 6-10 PM, you can experience everything that French culture has to offer without ever leaving Oak Cliff. Highlights of the day include a mussels competition, Vespa rally, crepe stands, petanque courts (what is petanque? Click here), French music, dancing, and wine tasting.
Taste of Dallas – Beyond the Food
If there’s one thing Dallas doesn’t mess up, it’s food. If there’s another, it’s entertainment. So you know that any time these two come together it’s sure to be a total knockout. Allow us to introduce you to the 28th annual Taste of Dallas. The three-day Fair Park event is a chance for our city’s food and dining community to display just what makes us so great.
