Record Store Day – This Saturday April 16th
Tomorrow is one of my favorite “holidays” – Record Store Day! This is the day to go out and support music at your local record store. This Saturday, April 16th, independently owned record stores both locally and nationally will collaborate with artists to celebrate music. This is the perfect opportunity for you to support your local record store, artists, and hear some new music! Many independent record stores all around the world will be celebrating with parties, live music and special RSD releases from multiple amazing artists. To find out what’s happening near you, visit the Record Store Day website.
Why is this important, you ask? Well just take a look at what 2011 Ambassador Ozzy Osborne has to say…
Now that we’re all clear on how important this day is, let’s get to the good stuff. Two of my personal favorite record stores in Dallas will each be throwing their own Record Store Day Celebration.
Good Records will be celebrating their 11th Anniversary on Saturday, complete with food, libations, and plenty of new & limited release vinyl. It will also be a full day of live music from 11 am – midnight with artists such as Sarah Jaffe, Diamond Age and DJ Sober. Click here for the full day’s music schedule, and here for more information. I will be volunteering so be sure to stop by and say HI!
Bill’s Records is also throwing a party all day long with plenty of live music and celebrations for Bill’s 67th Birthday. Live performances include Taylor Davis and Bravo Max, so stop by and jam out!
Both parties are free and for all ages!
Not in Dallas? Check out a list of participating stores here.
“I think it’s high time the mentors, big brothers, big sisters, parents, guardians, and neighborhood ne’er do wells, start taking younger people that look up to them to a real record store and show them what an important part of life music really is.”
– Jack White
Hey, if jack white says so, who are we to argue?! So get out to your local record store and support music!! Trust me, it will be awesome.
Don’t forget to check your favorite store for limited and special edition releases of CDs and vinyl only available on this day. So go support your local stores and musicians, and maybe pick up some new vinyl.
