All roads lead to Denton, Texas for The Denton Black Film Festival (DBFF), a weekend long film festival for diverse, emerging and established filmmakers, artists, musicians, and industry tastemakers coming together for a “Black Cultural” experience. Since its inception in 2015,  the festival annually attracts a core audience of film enthusiasts creating greater networks to the cinematic legacy of African Americans.

The festival traditionally features independent film screenings, narratives, documentaries, and shorts submitted by filmmakers from all over the country and internationally. Against the backdrop, DBFF encourages and rewards artistic excellence providing a platform to educate, inspire, and entertain festivalgoers — a testimony to its mission to introduce and connect talented newcomers to the industry at large.

Each year the DBFF features numerous networking activities designed to educate, entertain, and inspire festivalgoers about  opportunities within the film industry, while offering master classes, Q&A sessions, with a lineup of amazing entertainment. In addition to a wide range of esteemed works, the event strives to address historical and ongoing social issues that affect African American communities around the world.

This year’s awards will be presented within five different categories: Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary Feature, Best Narrative Short, Best Documentary Short, and Best College Student Short.

This festival is for everyone, and everyone is invited to come share the culture, and enjoy great films that are of entertainment and importance to all. Film can lead to a better understanding of and communication between, peoples of diverse cultures, races, and lifestyles, while simultaneously serving as a vehicle to initiate dialogue on the important issues of our times.
