The Dallas Institute Presents 1st Annual Festival of Ideas

On Saturday, November 8th, The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture will be presenting the first annual Festival of Ideas. Located in The Arts District in Downtown Dallas, the event will focus on a number of issues that can seem too big for just one person to talk about.

4 issues will be addressed at this years event. Don’t miss the discussion about key issues affecting your neighborhood and what could be future policies for Dallas county.

The Issues:

The Environment – Guest speaker: Elizabeth Kolbert
American Cities & Suburbs – Guest speaker: David Brooks
Race, Class & The Law – Guest speaker: Maya Wiley
Global Issues/Local Impact – Guest speaker: Nicholas Kristof

Schedule:

10:00am-11:30am. Morning Symposium at the Meyerson will present the Welcome & Festival of Ideas Kickoff with Mayor Tom Leppert. An opening statement by Festival of Ideas “Ringmaster” will follow with Michael Beschloss. During the Symposium, the keynote speakers will each give a short introduction about their Issue.

11:30am-1:00pm. Buffet Lunch at the Meyerson.

1:00pm-2:30pm. Focus Forums with Festival Teams.

3:00pm-4:30pm. Roundtable Discussions.

$125 (limited seating at each discussion venue.)

The event is open to the public and tickets can start as low as $45 ($25 for students and teachers.) To attend the entire day event an individual is looking at around $300. This can seem like a lot to someone who is not directly influencing or investing in these issues.

On the other hand, we spend so money going out to dinners, shopping, and weekend entertainment. A day spent with expert journalists, historians and local politicians, seems more like an investment on ones future than that new outfit.
