Returning from a long hiatus, Mur‘s newest offering “Fire Escapes” ignites a conversation about enduring and overcoming struggles with mental health issues and substance abuse. While writing this collection of songs, Hartman was dealing with his own demons and found healing in writing his story on paper. Inspired by the sophistication and dramatics of Pink Floyd and Elbow, the genre fluidity of David Bowie, and the anthemic and emotional delivery of Jeff Buckley, MUR creates bittersweet symphonies designed to uplift and encourage.

To that end, Proceeds of the album’s sales will benefit Foundation 45, a Deep Ellum based group dedicated to aiding those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts, mental illness and addiction, while providing support to those who are left struggling with the collateral damage of losing a loved one to suicide. Hartman hopes this gesture will help start a conversation about these issues and aid Foundation 45 in providing help to those in need.
