Spring Time In Dallas: The 9th Annual Dallas International Film Festival
Did you miss me? It is soooo great to be back writing for ILiveInDallas.com for 2015. It has been a long and dreadful winter. If you’ve taken a look outside lately, the wacko Texas weather is behind us and spring has come at last. So… what do you want to do? Go out for a jog? See a concert maybe? Check out a convention downtown? How about this – get out of the house from binge watching Netflix and head out to a film festival. Instead, binge watch movies with a bunch of strangers and film celebrities.
For as long as I remember living in DFW, Dallas never had the pleasure of hosting a major film festival. Aside from the Asian Film Festival (still going strong), you had to go to Houston (WorldFest), Austin (SXSW), or any indie film festival that was somewhere other than Dallas. Then something happened in 2006. The AFI Dallas International Film Festival was born. Believe it or not, Dallas has always had a film venue (remember Deep Ellum Film Festival?), but they never had access to three theaters, big name celebrities and major picture companies. Let’s not forget the lavish parties hosted around the city.
In its ninth year, Dallas and AFI parted company, but the film festival continues to be the biggest draw in town. It’s only a couple days away, so bet on ILiveInDallas.com (AKA my column) for film reviews, pictures, and other surprises from opening day until the closing ceremony.
