Love music festivals but hate sweating through them in the summer heat? Lucky for us, summer is coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean that the music stops there. The third annual Index Fest is finally upon us, and we’re really (really, truly) hoping that it won’t be 100 degrees at the end of September. That means cooler nights to enjoy the ninety-five bands that are hitting the stage in just three awesome-filled days.

Index Fest began in 2012 and was designed to reinvigorate the music scene and vibe in Deep Ellum. While most of America is lame and goes to the coasts for marathon music festivals, Index Fest creates an open invitation for indie music lovers to enjoy the culture, nightlife, and overall vibe of our great (ahem, landlocked) city.

Now in its third year, the festival is seeing more improvements than ever; it’s been expanded to an entire three days and organizers have added additional stages, many more bands, and have taken up another block on Elm street to accommodate. With a total of three outdoor stages and six participating venues including Club Dada, Prophet Ballroom, Prophet Bar, Three Links, Trees and Sons of Hermann Hall, the Fest aims to once again transform Deep Ellum to a musical and cultural wonderland.

They even created a brand spankin’ new website that lets you create your own festival schedule online. Move over, Bonaroo. Dallas can get fancy too. Larger acts include Local Natives, Mutemath, Future Islands, The Get Up Kids, Kaiser Cheifs and Lord Huron, just to name a few. There will also be tons of great local acts, from the whimsical harmonies of Bethan to the “divorce pop” of Son of Stan (who also played at Homegrown Fest, which we covered and was awesome). Tickets can be purchased as a 3-day pass for $99 or as a single-day for $40-$45. VIP is also available and includes private areas, complimentary food, beer, water, and specialty drinks, seating & shaded areas, side stage views, in & out privileges and a festival t-shirt.
