Peak & Elm Cocina y Bar will officially debut the restaurant’s fresh, authentic culinary concept with an opening celebration on February 8; dinner service from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and a big after-party until 2 a.m.

From the award-winning founders of Dallas institution, La Popular Tamale House, Peak & Elm offers creative, unpretentious, contemporary Mexican food that fuses the Moreno family’s commitment to traditional cuisine with modern, artistic presentation. Reflecting the soul of Deep Ellum’s New East Elm neighborhood, the eatery’s location is among the city’s most historically prominent venues, and in helping update and preserve the famed downtown space, Peak & Elm is honored to continue the site’s legacy of cultural significance.

THE DELICIOUS DETAILS

FOOD: Partnering with Dallas-based vendors including the Mozzarella Company, Empire Bread, Texas Honeybee, Times Ten Cellars, and of course, La Popular Tamale House, Peak & Elm’s brunch, lunch, dinner, and bar menus will boast fresh, handmade ingredients from the city’s leading artisans. Updating classic Mexican dishes with a modern flair, Peak & Elm’s small plates include offerings like Elote Fresco Granja and Ceviche Dos Veces, while the restaurant’s entrée selections include Tamale Pie and a new take on traditional fajitas. Peak & Elm’s bar service also reflects a commitment to local businesses, and in addition to featuring wines from Times Ten Cellars, the restaurant will carry only Texas-made beer alongside unique craft cocktails like the Streetcar Sangria and a signature pear margarita. In striving to create the healthiest food possible, Peak & Elm’s culinary choices are lard and gluten free, and the restaurant’s menus will include both vegetarian and vegan options.

FOUNDATION: In founding Peak & Elm, Jesse Moreno Jr. will expand and enhance the legacy of culinary excellence established by the Moreno family, and the restaurant’s concept represents a fresh, contemporary fusion of traditional, authentic Mexican cuisine and modern, clean presentation.

“My father has always been adamant about using the highest quality of ingredients and trying to find what we need at the Farmers Market…. Everyone in the family who takes part in the business is expected to be knowledgeable in everything from washing the pots and pans to managing the kitchen,” noted Moreno Jr.

FAMILY: The Moreno family’s first restaurant, La Popular Tamale House, opened in 1984 and has earned innumerable accolades during its 30-year history, including honors for Best Tortillas and Best Tamales in Dallas from Texas Monthly and D Magazine respectively. Now boasting two dining locations in the metroplex, the restaurant also conducts wholesale distribution of staples like tortillas, chips, and tamales through La Popular Inc.
