I Live in Dallas Radio – Episode #4 – Deep Ellum Urban Gardens Lowdown on an Exposition Park Detour
This is our fourth episode of I Live In Dallas Radio. This I Live In Dallas Radio show, co-hosted by myself and Jason Channell, was recorded at Amsterdam Bar in Exposition Park. Amsterdam Bar is located on the tail end of Deep Ellum directly across from Fair Park. In this radio show we chat with Deep Ellum resident, area ambassador, and day-time marketer Paula Ramirez. We have known Paula for several years as being a prominent voice in the local Dallas social media sphere and as an active advocate of Deep Ellum. Paula is extremely passionate about the Deep Ellum area and has a lot of important information to share about all the different organizations in-which she, and you as a Dallas resident, can be involved including the Deep Ellum Urban Gardens. Listen to the podcast for more information.

The Deep Ellum Urban Gardens is a volunteer-only run project which gives local residents the opportunity to inexpensively lease small plots of land in Deep Ellum to grow his/her own organic garden. It’s an awesome opportunity for urban-dwellers without a lot of garden-growing space at their disposal. Instead of just herbs, you can now grow tomatoes, peppers, beans, and any other food staple you desire. The deadline for the first round of garden land leasers is Friday, September 7th. Go to www.DeepEllumUrbanGardens.com to apply if you are interested in having your own 4×4 or 4×8 plot.
We also spoke with Mike Sheel, owner and operator of Amsterdam Bar. We interview him and find out the best nights to hang out, the history of the Amsterdam Bar, as well as what the bar use to be and its evolution.
Listen as we:
- Talk about three specific Deep Ellum Organziations in-which you can get involved.
- Experts from gold coast structural landscaping will tell you how you can learn organic gardening first-hand.
- Name at least a dozen specific Deep Ellum business establishments you might consider visiting that are great for pizza, Tex-Mex, karaoke, and most importantly, pastries.
Lastly, the Deep Ellum neighborhood was referenced in a recent article I Live In Dallas wrote for the travel section of the premier online news source of the United Kingdom, The Guardian. You can read that article and learn about other cool things to do in Deep Ellum here.
