2022 Art Basel – Complete Review of the Art Fairs

For the 2022 edition of the Miami Art Basel, we spent most of our time at the different satellite art fairs spread out throughout Miami Art Week. Each of the fairs had a unique cultural theme, with the artwork being carefully selected by the curators.

The first major fair we attended was the Red Dot/Spectrum exhibition in Wynwood. With two fairs being displayed under one roof, there were plenty of memorable pieces to highlight.

The next art fair we attended was CONTEXT Art Miami. The event drew plenty of celebrity appearances including Jon Bon Jovi, Ariana Rockefeller, Carl Icahn, Donna Karan, Daymond John, and even Floyd Mayweather.

In between the art fairs, we did manage to attend a private showing of the famous street artist Alec Monopoly’s work at the Eden Gallery in South Beach. The event featured pieces from Alec’s personal collection.

SCOPE Art Show was the first art fair we visited in Miami Beach. The contemporary fair hosted over 150 exhibitors, brand activations by Grey Goose, Origin Water, and Norwegian Cruise Line, as well as artists panel discussions throughout the week.

Continuing down Ocean Drive on South Beach, we next made our way to the UNTITLED Art Fair. UNTITLED featured emerging contemporary artists mostly displaying nontraditional art forms.

We moved onto Aqua Art Miami, the sister fair to CONTEXT. Aqua displayed a variety of domestic and international galleries consisting of mostly mid-career artists.

Taking another break from the art fairs, we headed over to the Perez Art Museum to see the Porsche sponsored “Art of Dreams” installation by Scottish artist Chris Labrooy.

Our last stop at Art Basel was the Design Miami Fair back on Miami Beach. Design Miami differs from the other major art fairs in that the fair showcases artwork focused on interior design. This year the theme for Design Miami was “The Golden Age: Looking to the Future through the lens of design.” In addition to the artwork, the event featured the new Audi concept EV, the Audi RS e-tron GT.
